Melfort Triathletes Compete - July 2008

Three members of the Melfort Triathlon Club competed over the weekend. Bill Glanville competed in the Stony Plain Half Ironman Triathlon just outside Edmonton and Victoria Argent and Harvey Weber competed at the Regina Beach Triathlon.

Bill Glanville, president of the Melfort Triathlon Club, showed what determination he has by completing the triathlon consisting of a 2 km swim, 90 km bike, and 21 km run in a personal record time of 5 hours 37 minutes and 40 seconds. Via text message from Bill; Bill confessed the triathlon as being very demanding. He wrote that it was pouring rain during the very long bike and the last 5 km of the run was very tough. The official results were not posted at this point in time but usually there are over 600 competitors in this race.

Victoria Argent and Harvey Weber stuck to a much shorter distance triathlon. Victoria competed in the sprint distance and Harvey the super sprint distance at the Regina Beach Triathlon. Victoria was the 4th fastest swimmer out of lake amongst a group of 56 competitors. Victoria went on to bike and run to finish the triathlon 29th overall and 6th in her age class. Her final time was 1 hour 34 minutes and 28 seconds. Harvey placed 3rd overall in the super sprint triathlon finishing in a time of 45 minutes 17 seconds.

A number of triathletes from the newly formed Melfort Triathlon Club will be competing in the Boreal Off-Road Triathlon on July 20 at McPhee Lake (Elkridge Resort).
