Melfort Triathletes Conquer Off-Road Triathlon - July 2008

Imagine a lake as still as glass, a rough quad path, and an undulating running trail in Prince Albert National Park. This was the site of the 2008 Boreal Off-Road Triathlon where six members of the Melfort Triathlon Club conquered the demanding course.

The endurance race consisted of a lake swim, mountain bike and trail run that was held at McPhee Lake on July 20th.
Bill Glanville challenged the full endurance race consisting of a 1500m swim, 24 km mountain bike, and 10 km run. Bill finished 14th overall in a time of 2 hours 43 minutes and 40 seconds. Bill has competed in this off-road triathlon before and loves the challenges which this venue provides.

The five other members of the Melfort Club raced the sprint distance consisting of a 750m swim, 12 km mountain bike and 5 km run.
Harvey Weber finished 6th overall in 1:21.26,
Lyle Bittman was 10th in 1:26:26,
Barb Marleau was 14th in 1:32.35,
Victoria Argent was 18th in 1:38.06 and
Jon Scott was 25th in 2:24.14.

Each of the athletes were pretty daunted by the challenges of the off-road course; especially the bike and the run. The off-road triathlon race offers different demands in comparison to the regular triathlons. However, each one of the Melfort Triathletes overcame the demands and conquered the course.
